PIEDMONT – For most of the season Delo Foster has thrilled basketball fans with his ability to send opponents’ shots back where they came from without much regard for offense of his own.

On Friday night the junior post had a big game on both ends of the floor. Foster scored 15 points, grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked eight shots as the Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season with a 70-42 victory over Wellborn.

It was Piedmont coach Tommy Lewis’ 599th career victory. He can get his milestone victory this season, either in the area tournament championship game the Bulldogs will host or the subregional crossover game.

Foster was 6-of-13 from the floor and one of five Piedmont scorers in double figures. Lee Stanley had 16 points, five assists and eight steals.

The winless Panthers played Piedmont to a 23-23 halftime tie, but the Bulldogs pulled away with a 30-point third quarter. Foster scored nine points in the quarter, while T.J. Fairs had eight and Carl Myers seven.

Hazel Green 79, Oxford 77 (OT): Two plays – both with two-tenths of a second left on the clock that could have been prevented with a little tougher defense – did in the Yellow Jackets.

Hazel Green’s Benjamin Pitts drove the length of the floor and hit a layup with two-tenths of a second left to send the game into overtime. Then, Jordan Beck hit two free throws with two-tenths of a second left in overtime — after driving to the basket — to win the game

Beck scored all seven of Hazel Green’s points in overtime and finished with 22. He hit a 3-pointer to give his team the lead, Simeon Shadrix matched it to tie, and then Beck got fouled driving to the basket in the closing second.

The Yellow Jackets led by 15 at one point in the third quarter and missed a chance to seal it at the line in the final 10 seconds of regulation. Roc Taylor led Oxford with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Eugene Leonard had 16 points, Kendrick Foster had 14 and Braden Mack 12.

The way they lost sends the Yellow Jackets an ominous message about the way they need to play defense going into postseason play.

“We’ve got a chance to compete at the highest level in 6A in the playoffs,” Oxford coach Joel Van Meter said. “It will not happen if we don’t decide to guard the dribble in the half court. If we decide to guard the dribble, it could be a long stretch of us to keep playing. If we don’t decide, it could end in two, three, four days.

“We’ll be fine if we get the message. I tried to show them some from the Talladega game. Maybe this time, with a loss, they’ll get the message.”

White Plains 60, Faith Christian 23: Austin Bussey saved his best for last. The Wildcats’ senior hit four 3-pointers and scored 15 points – both career highs – on White Plains’ Senior Night and his 18th birthday. Drake Preston, another senior, also had 16 for the Wildcats.

“I’ve been working really hard on my shot this week,” Bussey said. “My teammates found out I was hot after hitting my first shot and they already wanted to get me the ball since it was my birthday and Senior Night. It was an all-around great team victory.”

Jacksonville Christian 54, ASD 39: Chase Vinson and Kobe Messer both enjoyed double-doubles for the Thunder. Vinson had 18 points and 15 rebounds, while Messer had 12 points and 10 boards. JCA’s other scorers included Elijah McCormick (8), Walker Messer (6), Eli Fair (5), Noah Messer (5). KeTrez Holman led ASD with 20 points.
