ANNISTON – When Spring Garden girls basketball coach Ricky Austin tells Macy Reedy to go stand in the corner, it’s usually the Lady Panthers’ opponent who is about to be punished.

Reedy made six 3-pointers Thursday night, mostly from the left corner and all from the far side of the court, as Spring Garden rolled over Sacred Heart 65-20 for its eighth straight victory this season and 42nd straight in regular-season area play.

The sophomore hit five 3s in the first half. She got started early, hitting 3s for two of the Lady Panthers’ first three baskets and an 8-0 lead that became 19-2 before quarter’s end. She hit three in the second quarter as the lead swelled to 39-12 at halftime.

“I felt like I had that touch today; going into shoot-around today it felt pretty good,” Reedy said. “It just always felt good, that side has, all the time. I always shoot from there.”

The Lady Panthers (21-2) hit 10 3-pointers in the game as a team.

“I told her after the game she’s becoming a weapon,” Austin said of Reedy. “She’s that’s Darian Gaines. She’s that Savannah Dempsey. We didn’t know who that player was going to be when Savannah graduated last year. She’s turning into that kind of impact player.”

Reedy led four Spring Garden scorers in double figures with 18 points. Tyonna Rogers had 12, Neely Welsh 11, A.J. Broome had 10 and Payton McGinnis eight. Ayanna Foster led Sacred Heart with 11 points.

Alexandria 65, Boaz 54: Brie Bradford scored seven points in the second quarter and Allison Bonds hit three 3-pointers in the third as the Lady Cubs erupted for 44 to take control and earn top seed in the upcoming area tournament. Bradford and Bonds both finished with 11 points.

Pleasant Valley 49, Ohatchee 39: Lindsey Pritchett, Mac Parris and Rylee Haynes all hit 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Lady Raiders rallied to take control of the game. Parris scored five of her 12 points in the quarter and Brooke Perry scored four of her 10 in it. Ohatchee’s Kourtney Shuler led all scorers with 20 points, 10 in the first half, 10 in the fourth quarter.

Weaver 50, Wellborn 48: The Lady Panthers won a close one to force a coin toss to determine the area’s top seed, host and a free ride into the subregionals.

Glencoe 56, Sand Rock 55: Anna Beth Giles hit two free throws with seven seconds left and the Lady Jackets (18-6) held their breath as Sand Rock missed a shot at the buzzer for one of their biggest victories of the season.

The Lady Jackets trailed 48-41 midway through the fourth quarter, then Abby Vice started to get hot. Vice scored seven of her nine points from that point in the game. Giles’ winning free throws were her only points of the quarter. Ashley Morgan added 10.
