PV celebrates its No. 1 seeding with a pair of victories; Saks, Jacksonville, Sacred Heart all win, Faith drops two close matches

JACKSONVILLE — Pleasant Valley responded to being installed as the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Calhoun County Volleyball Tournament by sweeping Piedmont and Donoho Thursday night.

The Lady Raiders defeated Piedmont in an area match 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 and Donoho 25-12, 25-9.

They improved to 23-2 overall, 4-0 in their area and 13-1 against in-county competition; they have a 13-match winning streak against teams from the county. They have dropped only five games all season, and those came in the two matches they lost.

Here are the Lady Raiders’ statistical leaders for the night.

Faith Christian drops 2: The Lady Lions played five tight games, but left their tri-match with losses to Glencoe (2-0) and Sand Rock (2-1). They lost to the Yellow Jackets 25-21, 25-23; and to Sand Rock 26-24, 23-25, 15-12.

Here are the Lady Lions’ statistical leaders for the night:

Nicole Frechette 15 kills, 4 aces, 4 digs; Erin Cheek 25 assists, 3 aces, 4 digs; Abby Kazanjian 18 digs, 5 aces; Sydnee Johnson 5 kills, 6 blocks; Zana Christjohn 7 kills, 3 blocks.

“We just didn’t have it tonight,” Faith coach Justin Kisor said. “We will be ready for Saturday’s tournament (at Wellborn), for sure.”

Saks 3, Anniston 0 (25-7, 25-7, 25-4): The area match was Anniston’s first match of the season.

Jacksonville 3, White Plains 0: The Lady Eagles improve to 10-1 with the area win.

Sacred Heart 3, Spring Garden 0 (25-21, 26-24, 26-24)
