Senior continues to impress in first year as Piedmont’s starting QB, leads Bulldogs to win in region opener

PIEDMONT – Cardavion Myers continues to impress in his role as Piedmont’s new starting quarterback.
Friday night Myers passed for 155 yards, rushed for 77 more and had a hand in each of Piedmont’s first four touchdowns as the Bulldogs routed Glencoe 61-14 in their Class 3A Region 5 opener.
The senior threw touchdown passes to T.J. Fairs (64 yards) and Logan Pruitt (29 yards) and had touchdown runs of 30 and 5 yards as the second-ranked Bulldogs (2-1) opened a 33-0 halftime lead.
Myers completed 9 of 14 passes in the game and improved his pass efficiency rating to 282.81 (133.98 by NFL standards). For his career, he has a 281.09 rating (139.20 by NFL standards). He has thrown seven touchdown passes this season and been intercepted only once in 29 passing attempts.
Lee Stanley scored the Bulldogs’ final touchdown of the first half on a 2-yard run. He led the Bulldogs in rushing with 130 yards on 10 carries.
Braylon Cole rushed for 117 yards on seven carries and three second-half touchdowns. Layton New scored Piedmont’s other touchdown, a 19-yard run to open the second-half scoring.
The 61 points were the most Piedmont had scored in a game since putting 64 on Oakman in the second round of the 2015 playoffs. They are the most in a regular-season game since hanging 62 on Ashville in the second game of 2015.
Defensively, the Bulldogs held Glencoe to 156 total yards and intercepted three passes.
The win extended Piedmont’s region winning streak to 18 games, its winning streak against Alabama high school teams to 26 games and sets up an early-season region showdown with Randolph County next week in Wedowee.
