Weaver, PV girls lead

FORT PAYNE — After seven events in the Class 3A sectional track meet, Pleasant Valley’s girls hold a wide margin in the team competition, while the Weaver boys cling to a slim lead going into Saturday’s final day.

The PV girls scored 105 points on the first day of competition. Ohatchee is a distant second (36.50).

The Weaver boys hold a five-point lead in their competition, 66-61.

“Looking at the virtual meet I know it had us in first place but PV kids run great and you never can count out Piedmont because they’ve been there before. Tomorrow is going to be interesting for sure. It’s going to be close.”

The top five placers in each event qualify for the state meet.

Weaver’s Robert Gaines and Chris Lemon finished second and third, respectively, in the boys triple jump and high school. Amardric Elston finished fourth in the high jump. London Knight and Gary Wallace were third and fifth, respectively in the boys 400. Brandon Boyce and Matt Elston finished second and fifth in discus. Brandon Boys and Matt Elston were second and fifth in the discus. It’s 4×800 relay team finished third.

Pleasant Valley’s Rachel and Josh Faucett won their respective 400 meters and Mikala Simpson won the girls discus.
