Allison Bonds’ second double of the game, two-run shot to center with one out in the bottom of the seventh, sent Alexandria home a 7-5 winner over Boaz Monday. The game-winner came after Mattie Wade and Jessica Shaw both reached on infield errors.
Timberlyn Shurbutt’s three-run homer was one of three extra-base hits the Lady Cubs enjoyed in a five-run second inning that staked them to an early lead. Shaw had an RBI triple and scored on a passed ball. The Lady Pirates tied the game with four runs in the sixth.
Horseshoe Bend 1, Cleburne County 0: Chasity Mitchell drove home the only run of the game with a two-out single in the eighth inning. As the score suggests, the pitching was strong on both sides. Horseshoe Bend’s Kynsley Blasingame allowed on Tatiana Ervin’s leadoff single in the sixth and struck out 16. Cleburne County gave up four hits and struck out 18 with Kiara Akles fanning 17 over the final seven innings. Interestingly, Akles and Blasingame were the only hitters in the game who did not strike out.
Clay Central 7, Piedmont 1: The Lady Vols answered Piedmont’s run in the top of the first with three in the bottom of the inning and Kristin Jennings hit a grand slam in the fifth. Kayleigh Williams had two of Piedmont’s three hits – both triples — and Tylin Wilson drove home its only run.
Lincoln 7, Ohatchee 3: Victoria Sands had three hits and two RBIs and Ray Powell gave up seven hits and struck out six in seven innings for the Lady Bears. Stay Curry had two hits and Justice Green drove in a pair of runs.
