By East Alabama Sports Today

SYLACAUGA — Tournament MVP Ashton Duncan scored 23 points and sophomore guard Chaztin Tanner missed only one shot all night — from the field or the line — for a career-high 22 as Talladega beat Sylacauga 93-85 Saturday to win the Talladega County Tournament.

It was the Tigers’ ninth county tournament in the last 13 season. The victory was the 704th of head coach Chuck Miller’s career, tying him with his father Chuck Jr. on the all-time list.

Fred Dickerson added 16 points and nine assists for Talladega. Jae-Lyn Russ had a double-double – 14 points, 14 rebounds – and Chrishaun Williams came close (8 points, 9 boards).

The Tigers drained 10 3-pointers in the game, five by Duncan. Tanner had three among the six they hit in a 29-point second quarter that produced a 51-43 halftime lead.

Dickerson, Tanner and Russ joined Duncan on the all-tournament team.
