Alexandria’s Aaron Whittaker, Christian Knop win weight divisions in Barry Mask Pools Invitational; Valley Cubs sixth

WETUMPKA — Alexandria’s Aaron Whittaker and Christian Knop both won their weight classes and two of their teammates placed in the top three as the Valley Cubs finished sixth in the Barry Mask Pools Invitational.
Knop tuned up for next week’s Calhoun County Championship by pinning all nine of his opponents, including teammate Dalton Sexton, to win the 184 division. Whittaker defeated top-ranked (1A-5A) Brady Richardson of Holtville 11-6 to win the 147 division.
Seventh-grader Jaden New finished second to Southside’s Andrew Smith in 108 and Fletcher Swindall went 6-2 with six pins in finishing third at 122.
Dakota Medders was fourth at 134 and Gannon Womack was fifth at 140.
