WEDOWEE – Trent Lane scored two first-quarter touchdowns and Andrew Prestridge had a touchdown throw and a catch as Randolph County closed its regular season with a 35-7 win over Ranburne.

The Tigers (8-2), winners of seven straight, are the No. 3 team from Class 3A Region 5 and will play at J.B. Pennington (8-2) in their opening-round tournament game Friday.

Lane sandwiched runs of 2 and 45 yards around a 25-yard run by teammate Jai Wright. Prestridge threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Knight and caught a 24-yard scoring pass from Brody Wortham.

Ranburne ruined the Tigers’ shutout bid by scoring a touchdown with 2.2 seconds remaining. It would have been their second shutout of the year.

Before the game Randolph County officials honored former Tigers head coach Ron Watters by naming the field after him.

Watters coached the Tigers from 1979-2000, winning 147 games and making three trips to the championship game.
