LINEVILLE – The home team was looking for a little spark. It found it right in the middle of the second quarter.

The Volunteers of Central-Clay County were locked in a back-and-forth region battle with Cleburne County, but their fortunes changed in just about 90 seconds.

The Volunteers won the game 36-14, but they didn’t seize control until two big returns put them over the top. Shamari Simmons dashed 82 yards with a punt return to tie the game and Davyn Flenord brought an interception back 32 yards to give them the lead.

It was pretty much all Volunteer work after that.

Camerun Peoples was the Volunteers’ leading rusher with 187 yards and two second-half touchdowns. Quarterback Ben Street completed five of seven passes for 70 yards and a 28-yard touchdown to Shamari Simmons.
