OK, as the name implies, only 10 teams can make a Top 10, but after three impressive victories, Jacksonville and Ohatchee has to be wondering what else they have to do to break in.

Top-ranked Piedmont (3A) and No. 6 Oxford (6A) are the only Calhoun County teams in this week’s statewide prep football poll. At 3-0, both 4A Jacksonville and 3A Ohatchee are the first teams among those “also receiving votes” in their respective classifications.

“We’re flattered to get any votes, but realize this doesn’t mean anything because those votes can be gone faster than it took our team to get them,” Ohatchee coach Scott Martin said.

The Indians have moved up to No. 2 in the East Alabama Sports Today “Locklier Listings” performance ratings after winning their three games by a combined margin of 154-39. Jacksonville has beaten its three opponents by a margin of 122-41 and put 63 on rival Saks last week.

“I’m proud of our team’s effort every week so far,” Martin said.

Piedmont moved a little closer to being a unanimous No. 1 in 3A. The Bulldogs grabbed 26 of 27 first-place votes after receiving all but two in each of the first two weeks.

Alexandria fell out of the 5A poll after its second straight loss. Wellborn and Weaver also are receiving votes in 3A.
