Ohatchee runners start fast

Lady Indians run in a Top 25 pack, finish fourth at Montevallo; boys team finishes eighth

MONTEVALLO – The Ohatchee girls finished in a tight pack in the top 25 that bodes well for the future and placed fourth in the Girls 1A-4A 5K of the Montevallo Early Bird Classic Friday.

The Lady Indians placed their top four scorers between 14th and 21st and scored 99 points.

Kourtney Shuler was their first runner across the line, finishing 14th in 22:50.06. Jayda Fair was 16th (23:09.83), Ashley Phillips 20th (23:21.86) and Victoria McRaney 21st (23:23.32).

“Our girls have a chance to be really special this year,” Ohatchee coach Casey Howell said. “It’s the most talented and good-hearted group I have ever coached.”

Ohatchee’s boys finished eighth in their race. Gabe Hammonds was 12th (18:15.92).

St. Bernard won both team titles.
