MONTGOMERY — Greg Green takes over as Anniston’s varsity baseball coach with an emphasis on fundamentals and developing young players for the long haul.
He replaces Paul Farlow, who took an assistant football coaching job at Alexandria.
For the last two years Green has been the Bulldogs’ junior varsity coach. The team won its first game under his guidance last season.
Baseball has been a challenge at Anniston for several years with no feeder system to develop skills and foster consistency.
“It’s going to be interesting,” Green said. “We’re going to stick with those fundamentals. I’ll just try to get them going, doing it right.”
Green, a former college football player who hasn’t played baseball since high school, hopes to build his talent base with players on the way up.
“The key is getting our kids out younger,” he said. “Last year was the first time we went to the middle school and got seventh and eighth graders. That’ll be an emphasis.”
