Daugherty leads Gadsden Invitational, with scores, pairings; Sunny King Charity Classic update; ACC Parent-Child pairings

GADSDEN — Kevin Daugherty shot 2-under-par 69 Friday and grabbed the opening-round lead in the revived Gadsden Country Club Invitational Friday.
Daugherty, the former Anniston CC pro who got his amateur status back last fall, opened a one-shot lead over Harrison Martin, who played No. 2 at 3A state champion Westbrook Christian this spring and signed to continue his career at North Alabama.
Ty Cole and Bo Hayes are another shot back at 71. Asbury’s Cole won last week’s Fort McClellan Credit Union Pro-Invitational at Cane Creek and Southside’s Hayes finished tied for seventh at last week’s 100th State Amateur.
Caleb McKinney of Weaver and Gadsden’s Scott Smith both shot 72.
Daugherty’s round was a roller-coaster. He shot 2-over on the front and 4-under on the back — and wasn’t sure how to take it.
“The front was awful … could have been worse,” he said. “Then I shot 4-under on the back. I’m really not sure which one was real. It could go either way tomorrow.”
SUNNY KING UPDATE: With three weeks to go before the first shots are hit, the Sunny King Charity Classic has 166 of its maximum teams registered.
Practice rounds for the tournament begin at all three venues – Anniston Country Club, Cider Ridge Golf Club and Silver Lakes – Monday. Call the facilities for available tee times and rates.

COUNTY, BUDDY MOORE CALL: Players looking to playing in the 80th Calhoun County Championship and Buddy Moore Classic will have a little longer to wait to register but are encouraged to act quickly when they do.
Tournament organizers will begin taking entries for the County, which returns to Anniston Municipal for the historic 80th playing Aug. 13-14, on July 1. Entries for the Buddy Moore, a two-man charity event that benefits local families, will open the July 11 – the day after the Sunny King Charity Classic.
Players should contact Matt Rogers by text (453-0206) to secure their spot. Entry fee for the County is $120 per player and $125 for the Buddy Moore. The fields are limited to 80 players/40 teams. Both events are expected to fill quickly.
“If you’ve never played a tournament there, it’s a lot of fun,” Rogers said. “People are going to really enjoy both tournaments. I think it’s going to be two hot tickets.”
