Maj. Dwayne Williams Memorial, Cider Ridge Tax Relief update, Oxford City Championship

By East Alabama Sports Today

The ninth annual Maj. Dwayne Williams Memorial Scholarship Tournament is May 21 at Pine Hill Country Club. Entry fee for the two-person scramble is $75 per player, which includes one mulligan (two more are available at the door for $10) and all the amenities. Prizes will be awarded to the first three teams in each of two flights. Deadline for entries is May 18.

The tournament was founded by Pearl Williams to remember her son who was killed in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon Sept. 11, 2001. All the proceeds from the tournament and its silent auction go towards scholarships for students attending Jacksonville State in either the ROTC or business programs. Last year’s scholarship winners were Alyssa Franks, Stephanie Connell, Cadet Michael Rhett, Cadet David Martin, Adam Clibrey, Cristen Johnson and Taylor McIlwain.

CIDER RIDGE NEWS: Due to projected inclement weather and soft conditions today, Cider Ridge is moving its Tax Relief Night of golf activities to April 21 from 5-7 p.m. The same menu of activities will be offered, just on a different date.

Also, deadline for early entries to the Oxford City Championship at Cider Ridge April 23-24 is Saturday. Right now, entry fee is $135. Entries after that day go to $150. Register at the pro shop.

The ERA King UCP Charity Golf Classic is May 6 at Cider Ridge. Call the pro shop for details (831-7222).
