This week’s ASWA polls

Oxford softball remains No. 3 in 6A, baseball moves two spots to No. 8; five county teams in two polls

The seeding meeting for the Calhoun County Softball Tournament is scheduled for Sunday in Jacksonville. If the coaches follow the latest statewide rankings, the top part of the field should be pretty easy to figure.

Oxford, Alexandria and Pleasant Valley are the only Calhoun County teams in this week’s softball poll — and in that order.

Oxford is the highest Calhoun County team in the poll – No. 3 in Class 6A (behind Southside-Gadsden and Chelsea). Alexandria is No. 5 in Class 5A and Pleasant Valley is No. 8 in Class 3A.

Of local interest, Cleburne County is No. 5 in Class 4A, Spring Garden is No. 2 in Class 1A (behind Brantley) and Ragland is No. 4 in 1A.

Oxford and Jacksonville are the only county teams in the baseball poll. Oxford moved up two spots to No. 8 in 6A and Jacksonville is No. 6 in 4A.

Of local interest, Cherokee County Is No. 7 in 4A.
