Donoho sweeps Anniston

Falcons’ boys score 6-0 shutout, girls win 2-1 on late second-half goal

By East Alabama Sports Today

Tej Patel scored a hat trick and Mitchell Baker had two breakaway goals Friday night as Donoho’s boys soccer team played a well-controlled game in a 6-0 victory over injury-ravaged Anniston at Lentz Field.

Anniston dominated the play in the first 10 minutes before the Falcons (3-0) broke through with Patel’s first goal, a header off a corner kick from Hinton Owsley. Baker scored both of his goals before the end of the half off passes by Chandler Collins and Noah Wright.

Patel converted passes from Wright and Ameen Salame into second-half goals. Wright also scored on a 30-yarder bender that banged in off the post.

Donoho girls 2, Anniston 1

The Lady Falcons (3-2) fought off a surging Anniston team with a late second-half goal by Savannah Frickey.

Donoho’s Sonny Jenkins opened the scoring five minutes into the match and the Lady Falcons held it until Anniston buried a goal inside the near post in the waning moments of the half.

Frickey scored the game-winner when she banged home a rebound from a shot ripped by Constance Hodges.
