Spring Jam on at JSU

County spring football series given the go-ahead to use JSU Stadium, turf project apparently delayed

Either Jacksonville State is not going to refurbish its artificial turf this spring or it will do it later, but in any event the Calhoun County Spring Jam will go as scheduled at JSU Stadium.

JSU has been considering replacing the turf in the stadium for some time, but athletics department officials have given the county schools the green light for their spring football event May 19-20. It would have been played at Saks High School had the turf project been approved to start at the end of JSU’s spring practice.

“It’s a tremendous relief,” PV principal Mark Proper said. “It is going to allow all of the CCBOE (Calhoun County Board of Education) schools to play together and let the kids experience JSU.”

On the first night, Wellborn will play Ohatchee at 4:30 p.m. followed by Alexandria and Weaver at 7:30.

On the second night, White Plains will play Saks at 4:30 followed by Pleasant Valley and Pisgah.

“I really love the opportunity it provides for our players to play in a ‘college’ venue,” Ohatchee coach Scott Martin said. “It also helps with the morale during spring practice by giving our players something to focus on and look forward to.”
