WEAVER — Weaver split a pair of matches Tuesday, beating Ranburne 66-15 and falling to Ohatchee 45-36.

Ohatchee also beat Ranburne 46-33 to sweep the tri-match.

Weaver’s Collin and Caleb Allison and Kyle Clapper all won twice by fall. Reigning 106-pound state champion Nick Sauder, Drake Monroe and Brannon Bellar also won two matches.

“We aren’t where we need to be weight-wise and wrestled (poorly),” Weaver coach Andy Fulmer said. “Tonight is a learning tool for our kids. You can’t just show up and be successful. We are young in some spots and it was exposed, but tomorrow we will get better – guarantee it.”

The Bearcats have two more heavyweights coming to their mat Thursday when they host Oxford and Southside.

In Alexandria, the Valley Cubs defeated Cleburne County 39-33 and Saks 48-36. The key bout in their win over the Tigers was eighth-grader Randall Purdy’s first varsity pin at 160.
