Christian Knop has had a busy and so far productive offseason for what is anticipated to be a strong freshman season with the Alexandria wrestling team.

The chistled Knop, expected to wrestle at 170 this winter, is in Iowa this weekend with several county wrestlers, competing today in the Conflict at Carver. The event is being staged at the Carver-Hawkeye Arena on the campus of the University of Iowa.

It is his third major tournament of the offseason and starts a stretch of four straight weeks of action before gearing up for the high school season.

So far this year he has won the Mountain View Hardcore Championship, going 5-0 in the 182-195 division with three pins and he posted a 3-2 record in a Super 32 qualifier at McDonough, Ga.

After Iowa, Knop has two events in Georgia and the Super 32 event on Halloween in Greensboro, N.C.

He is joined on the Iowa trip by Ohatchee eighth-grader Reed Hill (100-pound class), Oxford seventh-grader Chase Hicks (91) and Ohatchee senior Josh Sexton (132). They are part of the East Alabama Wrestling Club team coached by Eric Lee, who will be helping with the Ohatchee program this winter.
