Saks sweeps

Lady Wildcats put on a show for the student body, sweep Glencoe, Ranburne

By East Alabama Sports Today

The Saks volleyball team played a matinee for its student body for the first time Wednesday and put on a show.

The Lady Wildcats won a pair of matches in straight sets over Glencoe (25-10, 25-10) and Ranburne (25-20, 25-8).

A scheduling conflict forced the match to be moved from Tuesday, but it turned out to be a boon for the Lady Wildcats (32-4) in several ways.

“We had a full house,” Saks coach Randy Law said. “This was the first time we’d done this. I hope we do that every year.”

Jordan Briskey led Saks with 12 kills and three aces. Maiya Northard had 10 kills and two aces. Tayler Teague had nine kills and three aces. Baylee Snider logged seven kills and Jaelyn Wilson had 31 assists.

“We played in spurts, and we talked about that,” Law said. “I still don’t think we played to the level we did Saturday (when they finished second in Geraldine).”

They also started talking about the potential of this team and possibility of a record season. The 1995 state champions went 48-10 and the 2002 champs were 55-7.

“We’ve still got a little bit to go,” Law said. “I told them if we go deep enough in the playoff they could do it.”

The Lady Wildcats aren’t done for the week. They travel to Etowah to play the Blue Devils and Weaver Thursday before jumping into the County Tournament on Saturday.

They’ll return the matinee to Glencoe Tuesday.
