Valley Cubs reach 4-0

Woodruff rushes for 220 yards and three touchdowns as Alexandria hits 4-0 for first time since 2007

ALEXANDRIA — Keenan Woodruff and the Alexandria running game had another big night and the defense chimed with in a shut out as the Valley Cubs clipped Springville 27-0.

The win elevated the surprisingly unranked Cubs to 4-0 for the first time since 2007. They are off next week in the run-up to their Region 6 showdown with Mortimer Jordan.

Woodruff rushed for 220 yards on 13 carries and scored three first-half touchdowns as the Cubs rushed for 372 yards as a team. He now had 718 yards and eight rushing touchdowns for the season.

The Cubs’ defense held the winless Tigers to 238 total yards while posting its first shutout since blanking Hayden 28-0 in the second game of last season. They held them to 134 yards rushing on 36 carries.

They made a goal-line stand late in the second quarter, holding the Tigers on four downs from inside the 10 in the final minute of the first half.

Jacob Heathcock recovered Springville’s onsides kick to open the second half and on the next play Quentin Bowie went 51 yards for the game’s final score.
