The Pleasant Valley volleyball team completed a sweep through the first half of its area schedule Tuesday night when it took down Piedmont in straight sets.

The set scores were 25-10, 25-14, 25-19.

Savannah Williams scored seven aces and had 10 digs to leads the Lady Raiders (13-4, 3-0). Madi Bentley had 17 digs and graded 60 percent on serve receive. Cammy Cochran had 12 kills and was 77 percent on serve receive. Setter Anna Bryant had 17 assists to go with five kills and a block.

CHELSEA – The Lady Yellow Jackets got off to a slow start on the road, rallied to force a tiebreaker, then fell short for its first area loss of the season.

The Jackets dropped the first two sets 25-19, 25-22, bounced back to tie the match 25-23, 25-12, but then lost the fifth set 15-11.

“We started off slow and made too many mistakes on our side,” Oxford assistant Rachel Poe said. “Once we decided to play our game and slowed them to make mistakes we did fine, but we just haven’t been consistent lately.

“Hopefully we will start to climb up the roller coaster and not come back down.”

Breanna Nolan had eight kills, three aces and 20 digs to lead the Yellow Jackets (11-5). Chloe Stone had 12 digs and 33 assists. JoJo Skinner had six kills, five aces and six digs. Laura Davenport had three kills, four aces and three digs.

Karagan Timmons had 18 digs, Nyia Archie had nine kills and Winter Taylor had eight kills.

The Lady Lions (9-6) opened their area schedule with a 25-14, 25-17, 25-17 win that was their third straight win this week.

“The biggest key is we didn’t let the ball drop tonight,” Faith coach Bradley Dawson said.

Madison Stephens had 16 digs to go with 10 kills and four of the team’s nine aces. Abby Kazanjian had 15 digs and Cornelia Simpson had seven digs to go with nine kills. In all, the Lady Lions had 55 digs as a team.

The Lady Falcons continued to make a case for a high Calhoun County Tournament seed, outlasting Ohatchee and beating host White Plains in straight sets.

They improved to 15-3 overall and are 8-2 against county foes.

Ohatchee gave them a little trouble, 25-20, 22-25, 15-13 and they defeated White Plains 25-19, 25-16.

Their only losses in the county so far this season are to Pleasant Valley and Saks. They play Weaver and host PV Thursday and will face at least one county opponent (Piedmont) in their Donoho Invitational this weekend.

Madison Gaines had 18 kills, two blocks and an ace in the two matches. Camille Fink had 10 kills and an ace. Peyton Suco had seven kills and six blocks. Anna Marie Woodfin had 22 digs, Camryn Swain 11 digs, Ryleigh Warren seven digs, and Katie Brown two aces and 35 assists.
