Saks senior running back Calvin Figueroa erupted for 244 yards on 30 carries and scored three touchdowns Friday night in leading the sixth-ranked Wildcats to a 32-14 Class 4A Region 6 victory over visiting Cherokee County.

Figueroa had a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter that helped put Saks ahead, then had touchdown runs of 44 and 74 yards in the second half.

Cherokee County opened the scoring in the second quarter on junior running back Quartez Henderson’s 2-yard run and James Sewell’s extra point.

The Wildcats (2-1, 2-0) countered with Figueroa’s 2-yard run. Instead of kicking the tying extra point, they went for two and were successful on a run by senior running back Demetrius Powell.

Saks added one more score before halftime on senior quarterback Quin Smith’s 77-yard scoring strike to Powell. The duo connected again on the 2-point conversion pass, giving the Wildcats a 16-7 lead.

Henderson came up big again for the Warriors in the third quarter, this time on defense. He intercepted a Smith pass and returned it for a touchdown. Sewell’s extra point trimmed the Wildcats lead to 16-14.

Figueroa gave Saks some breathing room with his 44-yard touchdown run. Powell ran in for the 2-point conversion, increasing the Saks lead to 24-14.

Figueroa put the game away in the fourth quarter on a 74-yard touchdown run. Powell again ran it in for the 2-point conversion for the final. Powell added 128 yards on 15 carries for the Wildcats.

Sophomore quarterback Tyren Dupree completed 12-of-23 passes for 130 yards. He also was intercepted twice. Henderson was his top target, catching five passes for 49 yards.
