From tee to tee

Cider Ridge offering September Saturday special to allow players to take in golf and college football

By East Alabama Sports Today

College football and golf – two things people in the South are passionate about.

Cider Ridge has a program this month for diehards to celebrate both without missing either.

For each of the next three Saturdays in September – 12, 19 and 26 — the Oxford golf course is running a special that will allow players to take in nine holes and make it back home well in time to get comfortable for the kickoff of their favorite college football game.

The course has set aside a block of tee times from 7-8:30 a.m. for a rate of $29. Players who take advantage of the special will be playing the back nine, avoiding any conflicts with those playing a full round.

“We were just trying to find a way to provide people that service,” Cider Ridge director of golf Doug Wert said. “They want to play nine holes and hopefully go watch their game, and this was a way to work it out.”

Wert said the course already has booked a few players for the special. The initiative is Honours Golf wide and if successful the company would look at expanding it into October.

In addition to the nine-hole playing special, Cider Ridge is offering an Alabama/Auburn merchandise special. Anyone buying an Alabama or Auburn golf shirt will receive a free Alabama or Auburn golf towel.
