Statewide baseball, softball polls

Alexandria moves up to No. 3 in baseball poll; 3 county teams ranked in softball

Alexandria’s streaking Valley Cubs moved up one spot to No. 3 in Class 5A in this week’s ASWA state baseball poll.

The Valley Cubs have won 15 in a row and clinched a spot in the Class 5A playoffs Wednesday with a 10-0 victory over Lincoln. They can clinch the area championship next week against St. Clair County.

They pulled in behind Charles Henderson and St. Paul’s in the poll.

Three county softball teams are listed in their respective polls. Alexandria is No. 8 in Class 5A, White Plains is No. 7 in Class 4A and Pleasant Valley is No. 9 in Class 3A.
