Seventh-grader Sarah Christjohn is having a big year for the Faith Christian Lions. At a very young age she has been the surprise of the Lion softball team this season.

“Sarah is our leading hitter, leads the team in RBIs and in a lot of other stats and that is a little different than what you usually see,” Faith coach Bradley Dawson said.

She is also very shy.

“She does not like the limelight,” Dawson said. “Whenever she gets academic awards, she is always wanting to not have to go down and get the award.”

It will be hard for her to avoid the limelight the way she is playing softball right now.

“She has had a lot of timely hits for us this year,” said Dawson.

And the Lions will have her for five more years.

White Plains, Alexandria and Oxford were installed as the top three seeds in next month’s Calhoun County Softball Tournament at the Oxford Lake and are the recipients of first-round byes.

White Plains will face the winner of No. 8 Jacksonville and No. 9 Saks. Alexandria will face the winner of No. 7 Pleasant Valley and No. 10 Weaver. Oxford will face the winner of No. 6 Ohatchee and No. 11 Faith.

The other opening matchups include No. 5 Piedmont against No. 12 JCA, and No. 4 Wellborn vs. No. 13 Anniston.
