The first major tournament of the Calhoun County golf season is scheduled to go off in a shotgun start Saturday morning at 10 a.m.

The field is expected to be at Cane Creek Golf Course for the County Two-Man Championship. If there is any alteration to the schedule based on the weather, it will be made at that time, tournament officials said.

Later Saturday the Calhoun County Golf Tour will recognize 2014 Player of the Year Gary Wigington, 2014 Match Play champion Andrew Brooks and all the season’s statistical champions at a dinner at Heroes American Grill.

The dinner is open to all tournament players, but non-honorees will be responsible for their meals.

WHITE PLAINS JV SWEEPS: The boys and girls junior varsity golf teams from White Plains dodged the raindrops and beat Piedmont in their matches Friday at Pine Hill CC.

The White Plains boys won 182-257, while the girls won 97-146.

P.J. Sotelo and Coleman Hayes both shot 44s for the boys, while Cameron McElreeth carded a 46. Hanna Dyar led the girls with a 45, while Korie Burgess shot 52.

Both White Plains varsity squads are scheduled to play in a tournament at Twin Bridges Saturday.
