The Anniston girls basketball team took over the band aids and turned on the defense and rolled into the Class 5A Northeast Regional with a 55-22 win over Mortimer Jordan Monday night.

The Bulldogs (24-8) will play Madison County (23-8) in the regional semifinal 9 a.m. Monday at Jacksonville State.

Calhoun County had seven teams playing subregional games Monday. Jacksonville also won. Oxford, Saks, Alexandria, Piedmont and Pleasant Valley all lost.

Jacksonville defeated Crossville 72-32; Pleasant Valley fell to Ashville 65-41; Piedmont fell to Glencoe 44-35 after building an early lead; Saks fell to Hokes Bluff 54-34; Alexandria fell to Springville 55-41; and Oxford fell to Fort Payne 65-32.

All during the season the Bulldogs rallied around the Band-Aid under the left eye as a show of unity, but they ran out of the bandages in the run up to the game. Only Jemya Bullock and Raven Cooley had them.

Not to worry. The Bulldogs turned up their defense. They held the Blue Devils to 8-of-49 shooting, held them scoreless in the second quarter and scored 25 points off the turnovers they forced.

Miajah Bullock, saying she was more ready to play this game than any she could remember, led the defensive effort. Kiayana Bullock led the offense with 29 points and 16 rebounds; she had a double-double in the first half.
