Fifth-ranked Ohatchee beat a No. 3 Mortimer Jordan team that had beaten it earlier in the year 45-32 Monday to complete an event sweep and win the MLK Duals at Wellborn.

The Indians went 5-0. In addition to Mortimer Jordan, they defeated Wellborn (66-15), Ranburne (66-10), Lincoln (75-4) and Alexandria (60-18).

“I talk to our guys a lot about effort and I feel like we increased our effort with the tournament win today,” Ohatchee coach Matt Sweatman said. “We lost to Mortimer Jordan earlier in the year and the kids felt like the win today was a little payback from that loss, but I felt it was important because of the improvement and strides our kids have made thus far this season.”

Seven Ohatchee wrestlers went 5-0 – Jim Wilson (106), Kevin Griffith (113), Josh Sexton (120), Hayden Pitts (160), Caleb Montgomery (195), Steven Minniefield (220) and Hunter Barclay (285).

The event also marked a return for Josh Murray. The senior has undergone two knee surgeries this year and returned Monday to complete his season.

“It was nice having (Murray) back today,” Sweatman said. “He is coming off his second surgery of the season and his effort and commitment to the team is unrivaled.

“It’s been an injury plagued season, but we’re thankful to be getting healthy at the right time.”

Elsewhere among Calhoun County programs, Oxford won the Fort Payne Valley Duals, going 5-0. The Yellow Jackets defeated Decatur, Austin, Fort Payne, Scottsboro and Clay-Chalkville.
