Weaver earns Hardy victory

Girls roundup: FT in final 10 seconds seals it; Anniston swamps Lincoln

By East Alabama Sports Today

WEAVER — Ciara Hardy’s free throw with 8.3 second sealed Weaver’s 37-34 victory over Wellborn after the Panthers rallied from a six-point deficit to nearly pull it out.

The Bearcats scored nine straight points over the end of the first half and opening minutes of the second to open a 21-13 lead. Rayne Beck led that charge with seven of her team-high 14 points.

Wellborn got two buckets from Carlee Mullinax in less than a minute to tie it at 21. It was tied at 23 at the end of the third, but six points each from Beck and Emily Reed helped put the Bearcats up six late in the game.

Dymond Myles scored 16 points before fouling out to pace Wellborn. Mullinax added 10.

Anniston 76, Lincoln 9

LINCOLN – The suspense in this one was over early and once it was the Bulldogs went to work on the future.

They spent most of the game shoring up the elements of their game for later in the season, experience that could only come during live action.

“We wanted to work on our man to man defense and positioning and taking good shots,” Anniston coach Eddie Bullock said. “When we play good teams I want to be able, as quick as we are, to go out and take some people man. The only way you can get game experience is actually doing it in a game. I got everything out of it I wanted out of it.”

Raven Cooley led the Bulldogs with 18 points. J’Kyra Clemson scored all eight of her points in the third quarter and Montiega Clemons scored all eight of hers in the fourth.

Lincoln scored all nine of its points on 3-pointers. The Bears did not score in the second half.
