ASWA Poll

Jacksonville enjoys highest ranking ever; Saks 3, Donoho 5, Piedmont 10

By East Alabama Sports Today

Saks and Jacksonville moved closer together in the Class 4A poll as they move closer to their anticipated Oct. 24 showdown.

Saks (5-0) and Jacksonville (6-0) are Nos. 3 and 4, respectively, in the poll, separated by 50 poll points. They remain stuck behind No. 1 Leeds and No. 2 UMS-Wright.

The No. 4 ranking is Jacksonville’s highest in school history. Of course, to stay on track, Jacksonville has to get past Cleburne County Friday night. Saks plays Crossville for homecoming.

“That will be a good one,” Saks coach Jonathan Miller said of the Jacksonville-Heflin game.

Donoho remained at No. 5 in the Class 1A poll after its fifth straight shutout.

Meanwhile, Piedmont remained in the Class 3A Top 10 – No. 10 – despite suffering its second loss in as many weeks.

One out-of-town ranked team comes to Calhoun County this week as Alexandria entertains Mortimer Jordan, the No. 3 team in Class 5A. Around the area, No. 7 Ranburne visits No. 4 Reeltown in Class 2A.
