Ohatchee wins Martin debut

REMLAP — The Scott Martin era at Ohatchee got off to a flying start Friday as the Indians routed Southeastern School 37-0.
Sophomore Austin Tucker rushed for 134 yards and three touchdowns and had 189 yards of total offense as the Indians won their season opener for the first time since 2009 and snapped a nine-game on-the-field losing streak.
They were credited with one victory last year, but that was via forfeit.
It was their first shutout since blanking Victory Christian 25-0 in September 2011.
“Our kids were ready to come out and play against somebody other than ourselves,” Martin said. “You put a lot of work in there and the kids put a lot of work in and you’d like to see fruits of your labor.
“You can’t always control who the other team is … but you can control what you do and they were able to focus in. You usually don’t beat people when you lose three turnovers and they lose one, but we were a little more dominant so we were able to overcome it.”
Tucker scored the Indians’ first two touchdowns on runs of 3 and 25 yards in the first quarter. He also had a 7-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.
Taylor Eubanks passed for 71 yards and rushed for 71 yards and a touchdown. Tristan Woodall and Jesse Sellers also scored touchdowns for the Indians.
The Indians outgained their hosts 483 yards to 46. They had 412 yards on the ground and didn’t punt in the game.
“Half the state is 1-0, half the state is 0-1; we want to be on that 1-0 side,” Martin said. “We get to be undefeated for two weeks and brag a little.”
