Oxford Black stays alive in AAA

TROY – Radley Sexton delivered a two-out, two-run single in the fifth inning Sunday that proved the difference as Oxford Black beat Decatur American 5-3 to stave off elimination in the Dixie Youth AAA state tournament.

It is scheduled to face either Fairhope National or Wicksburg Monday at 10 a.m.

Breyton Cornelius and Griffin Pitts split the pitching duties. Shortstop Carson Tyree scored three runs.

Piedmont 11, East Montgomery 5 – Landon Smart broke a 4-4 tie in the fourth inning with a solo home, then Piedmont scored six in the bottom of the fifth to break open its second tournament win.

Omarion Foster went 3-for-3 and Slade Haney went 2-for-3 with two doubles. Max Hanson picked up the win in relief.

The defending champions play Auburn Orange Monday at noon.

O-Zone State Tournament

FAIRHOPE — Mason Mohon and Riley Kirk hit back-to-back homers in the fifth inning to put Piedmont ahead for good and it held on for a 9-8 win over Smiths Station and stave off elimination.

Smith Station opened a 4-1 lead in the first inning, but Piedmont battled back to tie it 4-4 on a Jakari Foster home run.

Piedmont plays the Gordo-Decatur American loser Monday at 10 a.m.

In the other O-Zone games involving Calhoun County teams, Alexandria fell to Southeastern Grey 8-7 and Oxford Black was eliminated by Fairhope American 7-1.

Alexandria plays Fairhope American Monday at noon.
